Salvaging the 2016 Golden Globe nominations

These past couple years, I've been on top of this stuff. I recognize most of the films and people being nominated because of the hype they'd received.

Not only did I just find out the nominations came out this morning... but I don't recognize ANY of the nominees.

Okay, that's not entirely true... but it's jarring when so many names that I thought would be there are missing.
Like, where the hell is "Creed?" Why wasn't Michael B. Jordan nominated? People are saying the movie's so good and he's so good in it. The only nomination went to Sylvester Stallone as supporting actor.
This was a movie I was looking to see maybe this week because of all the accolades it's gotten. Now, it feels like I shouldn't even bother if I can't even brag that I saw a movie that got nominated for something.

All the movies being nominated- I've seen NONE of them and a lot of them I've never even heard of.
Carol- after seeing Cate Blanchett in the cast, I recognized it was that movie about a lesbian couple... is it even out yet?

And forget the TV nominations- so many of them are shows I don't even watch. Some are Netflix series I'm never going to see because I don't have Netflix (and wouldn't have time for said series even if I did).

Rob Lowe continues to be a source of frustration for me. In "The Grinder" (which I think I've flat-out refused to watch because the premise is stupid), he plays lawyer without an actual law degree, but he "played one on TV." Based on commercials alone, his character seems like an idiotic, uneducated version of Robert Downey Jr.'s lawyer character in "The Judge"... so how come Rob Lowe gets nominated for the exact same role and RDJ doesn't? I don't care if the win was a lock for Eddie Redmayne last year- the nomination would have been nice.

And for that matter, where is RDJ's Star on the Walk of Fame? So many other people that he can act circles around have gotten them before him. People with far less experience. I feel like I have to go "Shawshank" on the committee who gives the stars and send them a letter every day until they give this man what he deserves.
He's been clean and he's been extra brilliant for 10 years now. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?!
[Also, is there a rule against an actor getting their hand/foot prints at the Chinese theater AND getting a star? I know he has the hand/foot prints already... that's the only conceivable reason for his lack of recognition. His "record" shouldn't be holding him back anymore- he's paid his dues and is THRIVING]

So going by TV... the only nominations I'm really excited about are Viola Davis for "How to get away with murder" [the show itself should be nominated too!], Lady Gaga for "American Horror Story: Hotel" (simply because I'm a Little Monster- I haven't seen the show and I'm waiting for a freaking marathon so I can binge-watch it... or see one episode and freak out so much that I won't bother with the rest) and Oscar Isaac for "Show Me a Hero"

I keep waiting to see him do TV appearances for "Star Wars"- GMA gave me a taste yesterday, but it was maybe 45 seconds of him and 2 minutes of trailer footage.

Also, I hope Jon Hamm wins for "Mad Men" because he's never won and it's his last chance. (Didn't like the one episode I saw of it, but you hate to see someone get nominated dozens of times for the same role and not get awarded).

"Silicon Valley" is the only comedy TV series I'd seen of the nominations, so I'm backing that. [WTF are "Casual" and "Mozart in the Jungle"? Never heard of either of them].

*** Back to the movies

I probably shouldn't blog angry, but I need to vent about all this. I was on top of all this and suddenly... I'm not... I can blame my obsession with figure skating for it, but considering the crazy state of our country and the world right now, it's one of the few things that keeps me grounded (which is odd to say considering that ice is a slippery surface by nature).

I'll just list all the movies and go through this... and be pissed of that I'd seen none of them and most of them aren't even out in theaters yet.

Drama
  • Carol (probably going to be wide release only)
  • Mad Max: Fury Road (Didn't this movie got a lot of bad reviews? WTF?!)
  • The Revenant (I just know Leo is in it and he got nominated for it... it probably isn't the type of movie that interests me... like so many of his dramas)
  • Room (never heard it!)
  • Spotlight (it's got my vote- I know it's about the cover-up of Catholic priest molestation allegations)
Comedy/Musical
  • The Big Short (that's a comedy?! It's about the 2008 bank bail-out :( )
  • Joy (it's got my vote- we have J-Law, Coop and DeNiro in this one- the more I see the trailers, the more I want to see it)
  • The Martian (NOT A COMEDY! ...I've heard rave reviews about it from family, but I just can't get excited about a space movie. I had no desire to see "Gravity" or "Interstellar")
  • Spy (I didn't think it got enough rave reviews to be considered... but okay)
  • Trainwreck (my second choice behind "Joy"... even though I didn't get jazzed enough about it to see it in theaters)
I just noticed that Meryl Streep didn't get nominated for anything this time... but I can't get my hopes up too high. There's always the Oscars. They always find an excuse to nominate her for something.

With actors... let's see ...

Drama
  • Bryan Cranston for "Trumbo" (no idea what that movie is...)
  • Leo DiCaprio for "The Revenant"
  • Will Smith for "Concussion" (I would have substituted him for Michael B. Jordan)
  • the win is going to either Eddie Redmayne ("The Danish Girl" has gotten TONS of accolades, especially because of him) or Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs (because why not? so many people say he's so good he's scary in this)
Comedy
  • Christian Bale and Steve Carell for "The Big Short" (again, this is a comedy?!)
  • Matt Damon for "The Martian" (the movie isn't a comedy... but the nomination is deserved.. I'll give the win to him)
  • Al Pacino for "Danny Collins" (What is this movie? And are they contractually obligated to nominate him too?)
  • Mark Ruffalo for "Infinity Polar Bear" (I remember him promoting this movie, but I don't remember what it's about)
Supporting
  • Paul Dano for "Love and Mercy" (Wasn't he the lead?)
  • Idris Elba for "Beasts of No Nation (What is this movie?!)
  • Mark Rylance for "Bridge of Spies" (I completely forgot about this movie... where are all its nominations? I thought having Steven Spielberg as a director was a lock for these things...)
  • Michael Shannon for "99 Homes" (I think I might have heard of this movie... but I forget what it's about... they did a promo for it once MONTHS ago)
  • Sylvester Stallone for "Creed"
  • ...I've got no predications for this one...
Then for actresses (not including Meryl Streep for once)...

Drama
  • Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara for "Carol"
  • Brie Larson for "Room" (again, what is this movie?)
  • Saorise Ronan for "Brooklyn" (heard a lot of good things about her in this movie)
  • Alicia Vikander for "The Danish Girl" (odd the actors are getting nominations, but nothing about the movie itself)
  • Cate's probably going to take it, but I like either Saorise or Alicia for the win
Comedy
  • J-Law (WINNER!) for "Joy"
  • Melissa McCarthy for "Spy"
  • Amy Schumer for "Trainwreck" (I'd also accept her winning. Well-deserved)
  • Maggie Smith for "Lady in the Van" (what lady? and why she is in the van? What is this movie? ...and of course if she wins, she won't be there to accept the award...)
  • Lily Tomlin for "Grandma" (HUH?)
Supporting
  • Jane Fonda for "Youth" (again, WHAT?)
  • Jennifer Jason Leigh for "The Hateful Eight" (why that this movie's only nomination?... except for writing and score)
  • Helen Mirren for "Trumbo"
  • Alicia Vikander for "Ex Machina" (why wasn't Oscar Isaac nominated for this movie when everyone said he was so brilliant in it? ...it'd be interesting if she won for this AND "The Danish Girl" in the same night. Has that ever happened?)
  • Kate Winslet for "Steve Jobs" (I heard she was brilliant...)
Aside from all that...

Lots of great "Best Original Songs"...
Despite the movie it came from (and how it doesn't quite match the subject matter), I really want to see "Love Me Like You Do" win... it's such a beautiful song that sweeps me off my feet every time I hear it.

But "See You Again" is a strong contender because it's a tribute to someone who died. And of course "Writing on the Wall" because it's a Bond theme and it's freaking Sam Smith singing it. (Oddly, it took me a while to come around with him... namely because all of his songs are whiny and weepy... kinda like the male version of Adele. I'd take Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran over them any day...)

For best animated film... "Inside Out" will probably win (and I'll probably keep kicking myself that I didn't see it... I don't know why. I just didn't have any interest).
I read one review of "The Good Dinosaur" that said it wasn't as good as all the other Pixar films... so I wonder why it got nominated at all.
My sister saw "The Peanuts Movie" and wants to see it win, obviously.
I heard all this praise for "Shaun the Sheep" but it never played here that I remember...

Why are all these supposed good movies ones that aren't even available to everyone? I get this happens every year (along with all the nominees being movies that aren't even in theaters yet)... but it just seems unfair.
You know, the majority of ticket sales are the result of business from NORMAL people. The other 99% that don't have Hollywood connections.

Nominations & Predictions for the 2015 Oscars

So it begins again...

Based on the Golden Globes wins and nominations, most of these were pretty predictable.

There were two surprises:

1) all the buzz for "American Sniper," which got no mention at the Globes and is only coming out this Friday... the Academy has been a little more generous this year, having almost all the movies already released in theaters, but it will forever annoy me when a movie not even playing yet is nominated for Best Picture...

FYI, Academy people, NORMAL PEOPLE decide if a movie passes or fails in the box office... PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF THEM WHEN YOU NOMINATE MOVIES FOR BEST PICTURE... otherwise you'll alienate people like me...

2) "The Lego Movie" not being nominated for Best Animated Film (according to the trending topics on Twitter, I'm not the only one)... but their song "Everything is Awesome" was nominated for Best Original Song...
dude, how a big an upset would that be if it won? It's certainly one of 2014's most notorious earbugs (i.e. songs you can't get out of your head and subsequently get lots of YouTube searches)

Technical Awards

Not surprisingly, Best Visual Effects enlisted a lot of superhero movies...
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Guardians of the Galaxy
then "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "Interstellar" break up the Marvel party...

Because they went into outer space, I have to pick "Guardians of the Galaxy" for this one.

"Unbroken" was one of those movies a lot of people (myself included) thought would get a lot of awards buzz... then the reviews came out and it didn't go well... so no Best Picture or Best Director nominee for Angelina Jolie...
It did, however, get three nominations:

Best Sound Mixing & Editing and Cinematography
For the Sound categories, it's also going against "American Sniper," which will be tough competition to beat. "Interstellar" as well... it didn't get too many good reviews, but on technical merit alone, the buzz isn't really surprising. It is Christopher Nolan after all.

American Sniper
Best Sound Editing & Mixing

Because Cinematography is a huge part of the rave reviews, I have to give that award to Birdman.

For Best Production Design (which I assume is the new "Art Direction");
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
Interstellar
Into the Woods
Mr. Turner

As much as I want "Into the Woods" to win for SOMETHING (and anything but Meryl Streep), I have to give this to The Grand Budapest Hotel because it is up for so many awards and this will add to the momentum.

Best EditingThe Grand Budapest Hotel
Boyhood
The Imitation Game
Whiplash
American Sniper

...I have to give it to "Boyhood" because it's 12 weeks of material over the course of 12 years... it's a little hard to deny accolades for that.

Best Costume DesignThe Grand Budapest Hotel
Inherent Vice
Into the Woods
Maleficent
Mr. Turner

Best MakeupFoxcatcher
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Guardians of the Galaxy

...it's kinda hard not to give it to "Foxcatcher," considering the transformations of Mark Ruffalo and Steve Carell... no matter how much I love "Guardians of the Galaxy" and the second it was brought up, I second guessed myself... there is no loser here, they're all amazing

Best Music
Original Score
Alexandre Desplat got two nominations, one for "The Imitation Game" and another for "The Grand Budapest Hotel"
Hans Zimmer for "Interstellar"
Gary Yershon for "Mr. Turner"
Johann Johannson for "The Theory of Everything"

Based on how the Golden Globes went, I should probably give it to "Theory of Everything"... but any of them I would be happy with

Best Original Song
"Glory" by John Legend & Common (Selma)
"Everything is Awesome" (The Lego Movie)
"Lost Stars" (Begin Again)
"Grateful" (Beyond the Lights)
"Glen Campbell, I am me"

...it's a tough call with this one... I really want "The Lego Movie" to win its only nomination... it'd also be cool for Adam Levine to win for "Lost Stars," even though he didn't write it... I can also see it going to Glen Campbell because of his declining health...

Best Animated Film
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Big Hero 6
The Boxtrolls
Song of the Sea
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

Just because it's the only movie I saw, I pick "How to Train your dragon 2"
but with Disney having so much pull, it wouldn't surprise me if it went to Big Hero 6.

Best Foreign Language Film
Leviathan (Russia)
Ira (Poland)
Tangerines (Estonia)
Wild Tales (Argentina)
Timbuktu (France)

Best Writing

Best Original Screenplay
The Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson)
Boyhood (Richard Linklater)
Birdman
Foxcatcher
Nightcrawler (Dan Gilroy, also wrote "The Bourne Legacy")

It's a dead heat between those first three based on how well the films have been received... but I will give it to Wes Anderson for "The Grand Budapest Hotel"

Best Adapted Screenplay
American Sniper
Inherent Vice (while I'm on this, I'm happily surprised Joaquin Phoenix wasn't nominated... I don't care much for him)
The Imitation Game
The Theory of Everything
Whiplash

hmm... I say it's between American Sniper, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything... I want to give this to The Imitation Game because it's highly unlikely to get anything else... the competition is too steep

Best Director
Richard Linklater (Boyhood)
Wes Anderson (The Grand Budapest Hotel)
Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher)
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Birdman)
Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game)

Most likely, it will go to a writer/director type this year... I'll give it to Richard Linklater, but wouldn't be surprised if "Birdman" got a win here

Acting
Best Supporting Actor
Robert Duvall (The Judge)
Ethan Hawke (Boyhood)
JK Simmons (Whiplash)
Edward Norton (Birdman)
Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher)

...may be the toughest category out there. I can see anyone winning... everyone was talking about Channing Tatum MONTHS before this movie came out, saying he'd get lots of award buzz... he got absolutely nothing... which I find a little confusing and frustrating.

the Golden Globes suggests it will go to JK Simmons, but I won't be happy about it... cuz his character looks really brutal and unlikable...

This time of year, I always hold my breath for an RDJ nomination... but for once, I am super relieved he didn't get it for Best Actor... firstly because he wouldn't stand a chance against the competition and secondly... if he did win, I'd have mixed feelings cuz Eddie Redmayne and Michael Keaton are so good in their roles. It just wouldn't be fair.
Not to mention I wouldn't want him to win to make up for YEARS of snubbing. He's better than all that.

Best Actor
Bradley Cooper (American Sniper)
Michael Keaton (Birdman)
Steve Carell (Foxcatcher)
Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything)
Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitiation Game)

I can see any of these guys winning... but I'm backing Eddie Redmayne only because this is the role of a lifetime... and the accolades have been staggering...
come to think of it, I'm surprised that "The Theory of Everything" didn't get any nominations for the physical transformation of Stephen Hawking with the acceleration of his disease.

Best Supporting Actress
Patricia Arquette (Boyhood)
Meryl Streep (Into the Woods)
Laura Dern (Wild)
Emma Stone (Birdman)

Keira Knightley (The Imitation Game)

Laura Dern got a lot of buzz for "Wild," I'd LOVE to see Emma Stone win... it's more likely to go to Patricia Arquette, but I don't care. I will back Emma Stone for this.

Best Actress
Reese Witherspoon (Wild)
Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything)
Julianne Moore (Still Alice)
Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl)
Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night)

The cards are stacked high here... with Felicity Jones and Rosamund Pike, I'm surprised they were for best lead actress.. I thought they were more supporting roles. Isn't Rosamund Pike gone for most of "Gone Girl"... isn't that the point of the movie?

After reassessing things, I noticed that Shailene Woodley got nothing and I thought maybe she'd get buzz for "The Fault in Our Stars". She had such a big year and everything between that and "Divergent"...

like I said during my Golden Globes blog, I will attest that this is Reese Witherspoon's 2nd Oscar... like with Eddie Redmayne, the first time I heard about her work this year, I said it was hers to lose...

Best Picture
Birdman
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Boyhood
The Theory of Everything
The Imitation Game
American Sniper
Selma
Whiplash

...why no love for "Into the woods?" Seriously...
Since they extended the number of films that could be nominated, I've seen as many as 11 movies... They could have easily made room for "Into the Woods" and "The Judge"...

The first three movies are the shortlist, easily... as much as I want "The Grand Budapest Hotel" to win, my gut right now wants me to go with Birdman...

Nominations for the 2013 Golden Globes

Here's my source/link for the full list of nominations. If I missed anybody's name either out of lazyness or someone else has the competition lacked up, go here:

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/2013-golden-globes/watch-live-70th-annual-golden-globe-awards-nominations-132104931.html

[For the record, I'll try to post a new entry once a week, but when it comes to awards season, some things I simply can't wait to post about]

This is coming on the balls of the feet of a very eventful day. December 13th has been significant to me for, well, 13 years now. I think of it as the day I fell in love with my first writing subject slash muse and that resulted in my fanfiction series being as long as it was. A labor of love.
Just found out recently that Taylor Swift isn’t the only celebrity I know/love with this birthday. And I must say that Morris Day looks good for a guy who’s going on 55 today. Hot damn!

Now about the list. I’ll go thru them one category at a time and give my thoughts. But right now it’s pretty predictable. AFI did list a couple as their best movies of the year.

For movie drama, we have Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, Argo and Life of Pi.
Lincoln got a whole slew of nominations, so not surprising. Django is a Tarantino film and I saw that coming as well… but you’d think it was more of a comedy than a drama given his style. Argo was beyond predictable, they said it when it was released that it’d be nominated for Best Picture. Life of Pi, I’m kinda surprised its getting this extra buzz, but if Slumdog Millionaire can secure an Oscar win, anything can happen. (No disrespect meant, great movie)

For comedy/musical, or as I’d like to call it the “anything goes as long as its not a drama” category. Hmm… I’m surprised to see a couple on here. “The Best Marigold Hotel” I remember getting some props, but not this much. “Salmon Fishing in Yemen” was another indie film that didn’t make the local theater, but Emily Blunt and Ewan McGregor star, great actors. “Moonrise Kingdom” I’m really excited to see at some point. Wes Anderson, who did that Tenebaums film (which I didn’t care for) and “Fantastic Mr. Fox” which I loved, is a quirky director that almost always uses Owen Wilson and always uses Bill Murray. I’ve heard good things and hope to echo them when I do see it.
Then there’s the easy ones, “Les Miz” which I’m sure will sweep a lot of categories and “Silver Linings Playbook” which I’m personally excited to see… but for some odd reason I don’t feel like going into town and paying the extra bucks for it.

Best director… all big names… Ben Affleck has a great shot as does Spielberg for Lincoln, and Ang Lee could be a good spoiler. Kathryn Bigelow, I’m not so sure if she deserves this prize… at least not in the Oscars. Tarantino, I’m not sure how much of a shot he has, but never say never, I guess. It’ll be a toss-up between Ben Affleck and Spielberg.

Now onto the BIG ones… best actor in a drama

Daniel Day-Lewis is the front-runner, has been since they premiered the trailer. I think he’s a shoe-in. Aside from him, we have… whoa, where’d all these names come from? Denzel got one for “Flight” that has otherwise been blasted, Joaquin Phoenix for “The Master” the rumored “Scientology” film… not sure how much of a shot he has, but I wouldn’t rule it out, supposing Day-Lewis doesn’t win. Richard Gere, I don’t remember “Arbitrage” at all so I’ve got nothing for that. John Hawkes in “The Sessions”… I hear that movie’s brilliant and I think it could get the indie slot for the Oscar nominations along with “Silver Linings Playbook” and he could be a potential spoiler, the only one here that I think could possibly top Daniel Day-Lewis.

Best actor in a musical/comedy…
Jack Black in “Bernie”… something of an odd-ball film, I hear and he’s an odd-ball character… interesting
Bradley Cooper in “Silver Linings Playbook” understood, although I think he should have gotten something for “The Words”… he was EXCELLENT in that
Hugh Jackman in “Les Miz”… predictable, but hopefully it’ll give him a win ;)
Bill Murray as FDR in that “Hyde Park” film… I thought that was a drama, but then again, really can’t compete with that category anyway. And Ewan McGregor from the “Salmon Fishing” flick… that looks like another odd film, but maybe not dramatic enough for the other category

Best actress in a drama…
Jessica Chastain, has a good shot this time for being the female lead in the Bigelow film
Marion Collitard for “Rust and Bone” never heard of it, but she’s good for the nom
Helen Mirren in “Hitchcock”… eh…
Naomi Watts in “The Impossible”… don’t know anything about this film yet so I can’t say my thoughts either way and Rachel Weisz for “The Deep Blue Sea”…
yeah, I’ll give it to Jessica Chastain because I really have nothing else to go on

Best actress in a “anything goes” film…
God forbid Meryl Streep wins again…this time it isn’t for a drama, but for “hope springs”… which I didn’t hear too much about after its release. Still want to see it, though
Jennifer Lawrence with her 2nd nomination from “Silver Linings”… I love her :-P hope she wins
Judi Dench in the “Marigold Hotel”… has a good shot at it
Maggie Smith in “The Quartet”… I think its about a group of string musicians over a series of years… somehow I get the feeling she won’t be at the awards even if she does win… and another one for “Salmon Fishing”- Emily Blunt

Of course they can’t split the supporting roles or we’d be here all night…

Supporting actors include:
Alan Arkin in “Argo”, Leo DiCaprio in “Django”, Philip Seymour Hoffman in “The Master”, Tommy Lee Jones in “Lincoln” and Christoph Waltz in “Django”…
Now that’s competitive…
I love Leo, but this will most likely go to Philip Seymour Hoffman… unless Christoph Waltz musters up that charm of his to make a steal… great actor, that one

Supporting actresses include:
Amy Adams “The Master,” (didn’t know she was in that), Sally Field “Lincoln” (LOL, maybe I should just stop there cuz she’ll win), Anne Hathaway in “Les Miz” (Oh, back-up… I don’t think she’ll have this big a chance at getting an Oscar again, so she’s my personal favorite for the award), Helen Hunt in “The Sessions” (I hear its her best film), and Nicole Kidman in “The Paper Boy”
COMPETITIVE again, omg… didn’t think anything would top last year with Jessica Chastain, Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer as front-runners…
I’d love Anne Hathaway to win, but its more likely gonna go to Sally Field or Helen Hunt

Best screenplay:
Zero Dark Thirty, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Django and Argo…
Phew… umm… Lincoln is most likely, Silvering Linings for the spoiler

Foreign film, can’t comment cuz I probably wont see any of them… although Marion Cotillard is in “Rust & Bone”

Animated film:
Brave, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, Wreck-it Ralph and Rise of the Guardians…
hmm… Brave, definitely gonna take this and the Oscar

Best song and score, can’t really comment… but I think John Williams will take it for Lincoln (the dude’s always brilliant)

For TV… I really don’t care so much… I’m sure Modern Family will win their category like they always do… sucks to be Big Bang Theory…
Homeland will be a favorite for the dramas, but Breaking Bad gets a lot of praise too

Best mini-series or movie… haven’t seen any of them…
Hatfields & McCoys is only logical, but so is “The Girl” which I heard was amazing

Best actor… Buscemi, Cranston, Jon Hamm, Jeff Daniels and Damian Lewis from Homeland… it’ll go to Buscemi or Cranston cuz they’ve been honored before
Best actress in a drama… Claire Danes is the favorite for sure, but it could also go to Juliana Margulies for “The Good Wife”

Best actor in a comedy… Sheldon Cooper gets another nomination, and cuz Modern Family doesn’t have a nominee, he has another shot for a 3rd golden globe.  Last year it went to Matt LeBlanc for playing an exaggerated version of himself, he could possibly win again… Louis CK has had kind of a big year at the Emmys so he could take it… Alec Baldwin, I sincerely hope not

Best actress in a comedy… of course I’ll cheer on my girl Zooey Deschanel, but she’s in tough company with Golden Globe co-hosts Fey & Poehler…and Julia Louis Dreyfus won last year

Best actor in a mini-series/movie… either Kevin Costner for his “Hatfields and McCoys” or Toby Jones for “The Girl”… that Hitchcock HBO film
Best actress in same category… Julianne Moore won the Emmy for playing Sarah Palin in “Game Change”… I anticipate a repeat performance, no matter how much I dislike that woman

Supporting actor… LOL, Schmidt from “New Girl” got nominated, but I don’t think he can compete with greats like Ed Harris, Mandy Patinkin… and of course the mandatory Modern Family nominee Eric Stonestreet… I can’t help but wonder if he’s only here because the show’s popular and he’s a straight man playing the arguably more flamboyant part of the show’s gay couple…  when the same people win all the time, I just get bored

Supporting actress… Sofia Vegarra is probably a shoe-in to win cuz she’s on Modern Family… the others from Homeland and Nashville… I don’t think there’s really any point in talking about spoilers…
Maybe Modern Family’s grip on Hollywood is a liberal thing, I really don’t know… I hope The New Normal starts racking up the nominations a couple years from now because that’s a great new show.
